The Difference
There are things that make me realize that living in Canada is the better option for me, even though I would like to live in certain US states just for the experience. My citizenship, however, belongs here.
The day after the election I read a youth-oriented open forum discussion, and the 5000+ comments were for the most part full of jubilance. Then some of our southern neighbours started to share Facebook status updates from their contact lists, mostly from young Republicans: "That's it, I'm leaving the country". "You'll see this was the wrong decision!" "We're all going to die!". It was kind of surprising to me, cause it seems like Canadian youth are Liberal almost across the board. I didn't realize the heated support that McCain had from throngs of teenagers and twenty-somethings!
Curious, I logged on to Facebook to check the recent status updates from my friend list; there were at least 50 updates concerning the US election. They were all celebratory - every single one.
So you know... I think this is the place to be.

It was the on the morning of the election that Mike mentioned that most people, or at least the most vocal ones, on the gaming forums he reads were avidly pro-McCain. That's definitely the age group your talking about, and it blew my mind! I told him, since I don't read gaming forums, that I was under the impression that most of the internet was pro Obama, pretty much across the the board. The only thing I can think of with that particular demographic is that perhaps since Obama is a Democrat, Democrats are notorious for being anti-violent video games? But that still wouldn't explain the messages of doom surrounding his being elected from that age group. *shrug*
I felt glad that I was born, raised and continue to live in Canada when Al Gore, a smart guy, lost to a man who pronounces it Nucular. I was floored, since from where I was sitting Gore was clearly the better canditate, I don't care what party you belonged to. Then when Kerry lost to Bush after the worst of his administrations attrocities had been committed, I was like, "WTF, America? Again??" So this election, I was not entirely confident that America would finally make the right(left) decision. When they did, and by a landslide I might add, I was so proud! But I still am glad I'm a Canadian, because I'm pretty sure we would never elect someone who pronounces it "nucular" in the first place.
