The #1 Reason To Work From Home

Last week I went back to work for the first time in a month. My half days will become whole days soon and before I know it, I'll feel like this whole shebang never happened. I mean, it sort of already feels like that. The last remnants of headaches linger in the back of my head as if to make a point, but otherwise I'm starting to feel like me again. Except yesterday I tried to hop up two steps at once and I almost collapsed on myself. I've had massive leg muscles supporting my tree trunk legs for as long as I can remember and in a matter of weeks they atrophy? Wtf is that.

What am I getting at here ... oh yeah, I miss Ellen. You know, DeGeneres.

This was a typical day for me when I was stuck at home for three weeks:

Wake up. If early enough, watch Regis & Kelly from 9-10. Get bored when the second guest comes on. Make toast in time for Ellen. Watch Ellen from 10-11. (For the first ten days at home, the nurse would come in this timeslot). Flip between The View and Rachael Ray from 11-12. Curse yourself for letting Rachael Ray grow on you. Make a mental note to make that pesto spaghetti one day. See what's on Tyra at noon. Remember that Tyra drives you crazy. Take a bath instead (with the Picc line, it was much easier to bathe than shower). Go for a walk. (Depending on the progression of my recovery, this walk would be anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or more). Return. Eat fudgesicle. Nap. (Depending on the progression of my recovery, this would last anywhere from an hour to three hours). Watch Oprah. Flip channels for episodes of Friends (time delay cable is amazing, Friends is on at all times). Go to Hannah's until bedtime. The end.

Ok, that went on way longer than planned. Tangent not averted. Apologies. What am I trying to get at here? Oh yeah. I miss Ellen.

Ellen's show has the simplest, yet most effective formula. She's endearing and funny, and even though I'm not the biggest fan of the dancing thing, I'll take it over Rosie's singing thing any day (don't hate... I loved the Rosie show too, y'know). Guests appreciate her and let her ask anything, and I don't know if you saw, but she even went head to head with McCain on the issue of gay marriage, which deserves a big applause.

My first day back at work, I kind of panicked a little bit as I walked there. Sure, it could have been because I was leaving the comforts of a known schedule and my safety zone (a good thing when you're a sicky) -- but I think it was mostly cause for the first time in 3 weeks, I was missing Ellen. So here's to you, DeGeneres - and here's to time delay cable, which will allow me to catch ED on the days I'm home by 6. Cheers!

Actually WD, Ellen's in re-runs for the summer now. No new shows until the fall. I know this because she was part of my morning routine too. Now I have to switch it up a bit. I've replaced Ellen with various other shows, but it's not the same now.

On a side note: Shame on you for watching The View, Tyra AND for letting Rachel Ray grow on you. As a good friend to you, I should have never let that happen.
